2025 COMMISSIONER OF THE YEAR

Victor “The Franchise” Rodriguez, Commissioner

Winkenbach Fantasy Football Union League
Texas, USA • Founded 2013

Where friendship, football

and fierce competition collide.

Victor Rodriguez—better known in his league as The Franchise—is the founding commissioner of the Winkenbach Fantasy Football Union League, a redraft league built to feel less like a casual fantasy contest and more like a football organization.

For more than a decade, Victor has created a league centered around structure, storytelling, competition and year-round engagement.

Its members share friendships that stretch back to childhood. Its traditions have evolved over years. Its history is tracked relentlessly.

And thanks to Victor, there is almost no such thing as an offseason.

BUILT FROM A LOVE OF FOOTBALL

The idea for the Winkenbach Fantasy Football Union began after Victor returned home from military service in Afghanistan.

In conversations with longtime friends, he envisioned something more ambitious than another fantasy league.

He wanted to recreate the structure, drama and pageantry of professional football.

A league with history.

A league with rivalries.

A league with an offseason.

A league where every owner felt like part of something bigger than a weekly fantasy matchup.

In 2013, that idea became reality.

Victor named the league in honor of Bill Winkenbach, widely credited as one of the founders of fantasy football.

What began as a fantasy league between friends gradually developed into something closer to a football institution.

For its 12 members, the Winkenbach League became part competition, part tradition and part shared history.

THE ORIGIN OF “THE FRANCHISE”

Every great league develops characters.

Victor became one of his own.

The defining moment came during the league’s second season.

Victor had assembled a championship-caliber roster centered around Peyton Manning and the Denver Broncos offense.

The title appeared within reach.

With Demaryius Thomas, C.J. Anderson and Connor Barth still playing on Monday Night Football, the league chat came alive.

Then everything collapsed.

A Peyton Manning pick-six helped seal Victor’s defeat.

And from that loss, The Franchise was born.

Victor leaned into the role.

Part commissioner.

Part league villain.

Part storyteller.

The persona became another layer of Winkenbach lore and helped turn ordinary fantasy moments into events the league would continue talking about years later.

Because Victor understands something important:

Every memorable league needs stories.

Sometimes it even needs a villain.

BUILT LIKE THE NFL

The Winkenbach League does not simply begin on Draft Day and disappear after the championship.

Victor has built an entire fantasy football calendar designed to mirror the rhythm of the NFL.

Draft preparation.

Mock drafts.

Trade periods.

League votes.

Offseason discussion.

Owner storylines.

Historical records.

Content.

Competition.

There is always something happening.

Victor approaches the league like a commissioner running a sports organization rather than someone simply managing settings on a fantasy platform.

Even the draft order became an event.

Victor designed and built his own vacuum-powered bingo ball machine to determine draft position.

What could have been a randomizer on a website became another tradition.

Another production.

Another reason for owners to pay attention.

His draft-order videos eventually reached beyond his own league and began inspiring other commissioners online.

THERE IS NO OFFSEASON

Many fantasy leagues go quiet after the championship.

Winkenbach does the opposite.

Victor intentionally creates reasons for league members to remain engaged throughout the year.

The offseason becomes part of the experience rather than the absence of one.

Owners discuss trades.

Storylines continue.

Records are reviewed.

Rules are debated.

The next season begins taking shape long before draft night arrives.

For Victor, maintaining that connection is one of the commissioner’s most important responsibilities.

Fantasy football may only produce weekly scores for part of the year.

The league itself can exist all year long.

BEAT THE COMMISH

One of Victor’s signature traditions is a weekly challenge called Beat the Commish.

Whenever Victor faces another owner, the matchup comes with an additional wager.

Not money.

Something far more entertaining.

The loser might take a pie to the face.

Hold an embarrassing sign near a busy intersection.

Wear a ridiculous outfit.

Perform a challenge.

Or endure whatever creative punishment the matchup produces.

The wagers often involve friends, family members and even unsuspecting bystanders.

A fantasy score becomes a real-world story.

And by the following week, another matchup is waiting.

The goal has never been humiliation.

It is participation.

It gives owners another reason to care about a single regular-season matchup and creates memories that exist beyond the fantasy platform.

A TRUE UNION OF OWNERS

The word Union in the league's name is intentional.

Victor may be commissioner, but major decisions belong to the league.

Significant rule changes and disputes are put to owner votes.

The league values transparency and shared ownership of its direction.

If the group cannot reach the required agreement, the existing rule remains.

That philosophy creates an important balance.

Victor provides the structure.

The owners provide the voice.

The league belongs to everyone.

MORE THAN 1,000 RECORDS

Victor understands that history is what transforms seasons into legacy.

So he records it.

Meticulously.

The Winkenbach record book contains more than 1,000 tracked statistics, accomplishments and historical trends.

Some are straightforward.

Most touchdowns in a week.

Highest score.

Winning streaks.

Playoff records.

Others dig much deeper.

Historical trends.

Unusual milestones.

Statistical patterns that might otherwise disappear once a season ends.

A fact such as:

No team has ever reached the playoffs after scoring the fewest points during Weeks 1–4.

doesn't merely live in a spreadsheet.

It becomes a storyline.

Owners discuss it.

Trades are influenced by it.

Weekly recaps reference it.

History becomes part of the current season.

And every new year adds another chapter.

WHY VICTOR WON

Victor Rodriguez was named the 2025 Fantasy Football Unlimited Commissioner of the Year because the Winkenbach Fantasy Football Union demonstrates what can happen when a commissioner treats a fantasy league as something worth building.

Not simply maintaining.

Building.

Victor created structure where there could have been routine.

Traditions where there could have been repetition.

Storylines where there could have been forgotten scores.

His NFL-inspired calendar keeps owners engaged throughout the year.

His record keeping preserves the league's history.

His weekly challenges create experiences beyond fantasy football.

And his willingness to become The Franchise gives the league another character to root against, laugh with and remember.

The result is a fantasy football league that feels alive 365 days a year.

A LEAGUE BUILT TO BECOME A TRADITION

Victor's greatest accomplishment isn't the bingo machine.

It isn't the 1,000 records.

It isn't the side bets.

It isn't even The Franchise.

It is the fact that the Winkenbach League has become part of the rhythm of life for the people inside it.

Old friends continue competing.

Stories continue accumulating.

Records continue falling.

And every season adds another layer to something that began more than a decade ago.

Victor's advice to other commissioners captures the philosophy behind everything he has built:

“Build a league that feels like a tradition. Give them a reason to care every single week. And don’t be afraid to be the villain—every great league needs one.”

The Winkenbach Fantasy Football Union is organized like the NFL.

Driven by competition.

Powered by friendship.

And sustained by a commissioner who refuses to let the experience become ordinary.

Long live The Franchise.

Long live Winkenbach.
